RESUMO:

Questioning the (in) tolerance in the Iberian Middle Ages, from the new government that was established in the Muslin Spain - Almohade government, in which the relations between the Muslims and dhimmis worsened to the point of having established the choice between the conversions forced or martyrdom - which we set out to analyze the Maimonidian epistolary (1160 - 1165). Documentation, which enabled us to perceive the inauguration of new ways of relating to the "Jewish faith" during and after the processes of forced conversions. After all, more than a religious group, the designation "Jew" represents a social identity, a way in which individuals attribute meaning to the world in which they live. Thus, by being coerced into adopting a new religion - Islam - a social and individual conflict was established in the form of their conception of existence.
