SUMMARY:

Ancient Egypt was essentially ritualistic, meaning that its culture was present in all its aspects, whether social or political. This, in turn, was based on a cosmogonic past that reiterated the time of the gods inspired by the ideals of order, truth, justice, righteousness, harmony and balance as premises for the divine existence of nature and a posteriori of humans. In addition to being considered as a kind of wisdom for solutions to emerging demands, such as were required by the central power as a mechanism to deal with the unpredictability of everyday Egyptian life, this ideology was channeled to a deity called Maat, who dictated not only rules and behaviors through a deified moral path, but also justified the actions of the current order and of the social subject. Therefore, the sacred, far from being just a myth of the past, permeated the spheres of priests, kings and the population who attributed different uses to it depending on the prerogative faced as an arrangement for their survival. This dissertation aims to demonstrate how the goddess Maat was introduced into the Egyptian social context, in order to amalgamate a cultural identity specific to Pharaonic Egypt during the period known as the Middle Kingdom (2055-650 a. C.).
