BIG AREA: Ciências Humanas
AREA: História
SUMMARY:

This research aims to analyze the autobiographies of three female survivors of the Ravensbrück concentration camp: The blessed abyss by Maria Ferdinanda Herbermann; Michelangelo in Ravensbrück: One Woman's war against the Nazis by Karolina Lanckorońska and And I am afraid of my dreams by Wanda Wiktoria Poltawska. These were the women who wrote their autobiographies about the experience of imprisonment in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Considered to be the largest concentration camp for women, it was in full operation during the Nazi regime in Germany, opening in 1939 and liberating its inmates in 1945. This camp stands out for its specific characteristics, such as the conditions its victims were subjected to, as well as the forms of violence perpetrated against women. The sources written by the women survivors aim to understand that the interior of the Women's Concentration Camp stands out in terms of the forms of violence perpetrated, among which is Gender Violence, practiced against female victims, referring to gender-specific crimes. From the perspective of the experiences of the victims of Ravensbrück and the autobiographies, they stand out as a form of biographical writing that contributes to clarifying the subjective experiences inside the camp. They are testimonies, which can be linked to the other narratives of incarceration of survivors of the Nazi regime and the Holocaust. The aforementioned autobiographies shed light on aspects relating to the concentration camp, such as its conditions, routine, political aspects and the networks of sociability and cooperation woven by the inmates.
