RESUMO:

This dissertation aims to analyze the mobilizations in the city of Manaus during the First Republic. The temporal clipping from 1890 to 1930 was chosen because it marked a significant change of the direction of the date mainly due to the New State. We aim to investigate the movements around the date trough two aspects: the city as a stage of the mobilizations and the leaderships as actors. Another perspective protruded by this research was the look towards the gender and race relations, mainly on the image of Adalgiso Santos and the Amazonian Clothing Factory workers. Therefore, I seek to comprehend the roles of the social protagonists on the Labor Day mobilization in Manaus and how the press externalized the relations between men and women around this grandiose date.
