RESUMO:

The thesis entitled THE POLITICS OF SLAVERY IN BAHIA: EMANCIPATION AND POST-ABOLITION IN ALAGOINHAS (1867-1902) intends to problematize the impacts of the politics of slavery in the process of emancipation of the servile element in the city of Alagoinhas. From it, the framing of a memory based on the interests of the local political elite, formed esse ntially by former masters and slave owners. For this, based on the notions of second slavery (Dale Tomich), politics of slavery (Tamis Parron), class hegemony and paternalism (EP Thompson) and framing of memory (Michael Polack), were consulted. Provincials of Bahia, Books and Manuals published between 1867 and 1871 in the province and capital of the Empire and Minutes of the Alagoinhas City Council, in order to analyze the instability that the debate around the emancipation of the servile element generated, especially from 1867, after the Emperor's pronouncement in the Speech of the Throne. Thus, presenting a history of the second slavery in Bahia, taking into account the emergence of thinking about its impacts beyond the southeastern slave, implies demonstrating how the Empire, the Bahia Province and the Alagoinhas City Council dealt with the emancipation of the element. in order to confirm the implementation of a politics of slavery in the interior of Bahia by understa nding the political-economic context of the emancipation of the slave labor in the post-contraband era and the construction of a republican and progressive memory in the immediate post abolition.
