Even women took up weapons”: an analysis about women inside land struggles in Pedra Lisa, Magé andXerém between 1948 e 1964

This research aims to discuss about feminine participation in rural workers movements in Pedra Lisa, Magé and Xerém – regions placed in Rio de Janeiro state – between 1948 and 1964. Land struggles had worsened political disputes before 1964. In Rio de Janeiro state, this fact also could be noted: various social movements had summarized this kind of request, among them should be highlighted, at first, Fluminense Peasants Association, Pedra Lisa’s Peasant and Trespassers Society and Magé’s Peasant Association, and after that Peasants Association Federation of Rio de Janeiro State prevailed in this scenario. In this regard, the present work tried to learn about the composition of those organizations through gender category. We analyzed biographies, interview, documentary, newspapers, magazines and political police documents to understand women actions inside those struggles.To do so, this dissertation has been built in three chapters which presented the line of thoughts that guided itself. This way, it’s going to be possible to observe the fact that there were women among those disputes and they acted for rural workers requests
