SUMMARY:

This research has as theme the 1978 World Cup and its implications for bilateral relations between Brazil and Argentina during the Civil-Military Dictatorship, specifically Ernesto Geisel's government (1974-1979). Taking into account the Ecumenical and Responsible Pragmatism, the objective of this study is to investigate and understand the effects of the repercussions of the World Cup into Brazilian government and, consequently, in the relations between both countries. For the development of the research, sources from the Brazilian press and from the Brazilian intelligence services were analyzed, such as the SNI, CIE and CIEx, as well as telegrams exchanged between the Brazilian Embassy in Buenos Aires and the MRE. The possible change of the host country, the boycott campaign and the controversial final of the World Cup were reasons of concern for the Brazilian government, due not only to the tense moment in the region, but also to the delicate period in relations with the Argentina, whether in the government of Isabelita Perón or the Junta Militar.
