SUMMARY:

This work is a study on the organizing of the Conservative Party in the city of Rio de Janeiro, between 1853 and 1868. I do not intend analyze the party composition or the formation of the political program per se. After all, the aim is to understand the Conservative Party as a collective will formed to lead social life through the Imperial State. For that, I try to study the institutional organicity of the Party, in other words, its complex relations with political forces and the social ambience, as well as its internal organization. To aim this, I analyze the Conservative Party in its process movement, non-linear, watching the contradictory threads that sew the Party in its internal elements an in the historical ambience of Rio de Janeiro. In this sense, I focus on the formation of party doctrine and how this influenced the reformulation of the party program, on opposition of the Conservative Party and how this disorganized it, on the internal and external adaptation of the Party and how this reorganized the social sectors that supported him, on the Party’s inner circles and how this has reorganized the leaders and intellectuals, and on the experiences of the Conciliação and the Liga Progressista and how this stimulate the reorganization of the Conservative Party.
