"The Mystical Threat": Persecution, Co-option and exile of the mystics — a study about Juan de La Cruz (1542-1591)
Juan de La Cruz; Mystical; Christianism; Charismatic.
The present dissertation has the mystical exercise as its object, more specifically the one followed and teached by the Discalced Carmelite Friar Juan de La Cruz, and pretend to investigate how much this influenced his persecution and incarceration. To achieve this goal, we´ll start by explaining how the mystical-charismatic experience was fundamental on early christianism and how it was viewed after the religious institucionalization, generating the fundation of the monasticism. Then we´ll study this experience on Juan´s life, wich will serve as a parameter to understand what is presented in the third and last chapter where we´ll talk about a resurgence of the mystical-charismatic movement nowadays.
