SUMMARY:

The research presents as an object of analysis the trade of black street vendors in the city of Rio de Janeiro, quitandeiras, in the period from 1870 to 1888, with the objective of understanding the experiences of these workers and how they transformed their relationships and work arrangements, in the context where the dynamics of slavery takes on new contours. With this, it is intended to broaden the understanding of these women and their struggles for spaces and permanence, starting from the labor sphere, but also observing them in their daily lives and their social networks, their engagements and strategies. In this sense, in the presented dossier, through advertisements in newspapers, complex relationships are observed between demands for the work of quitandeiras, the rent and sale of these women, verifying circumstances such as working conditions, hours, and remuneration values for services. With this discussion, we seek to open space to think from the effects of the 1871's Law, the dynamics of slavery and freedom for women, and more specifically, the change in the profile of labor relations from one decade to the next, intertwining the fields of urban slavery , Social History of Work and gender.
