RESUMO:

The purpose of my research is to investigate the repercussion of Ermelinda Lopes de Vasconcellos's admission to the Medical School of Rio de Janeiro, whose graduation took place in 1888. I intend to apprehend the ways Ermelinda used to enter and, above all, to stay in medical school, later in the career. At this point, I intend to rescue the first direct discussions about your graduation.

However, despite having Ermelinda Lopes de Vasconcellos as my research object, my main intention is to understand the struggle of women for rights - since, Ermelinda participated in the organization of women's congresses and was president of the Fluminense League for Women's Progress, affiliated to the Brazilian Federation for Women's Progress. Therefore, my temporal cut will extend from 1888 to 1935. I intend to use gender as an approach in order to understand relationships and emphasize the intersectional perspective, taking into account race, ethnicity, class, and gender.
