SUMMARY:

In this research, we intend to analyze the political performance of Carmen Bastos, Carmelita Brasil and Stella de Queiroz, elected councilors for the municipalities of São João de Meriti, Nova Iguaçu and Nilópolis, in 1947. We believe that the investigation of the political transit of these characters can highlight the paths possible for women in the post-war context, marked by discussions of the female role in Brazilian society. In addition to navigating gender issues typical of the first half of the 20th century, the councilors also needed to navigate the turbulent political situation in Baixada Fluminense, which went through its first emancipatory wave in the 1940s. In this sense, we understand that even in the years prior to the election 1947, these women built sociability networks that would be used, consciously or not, to guarantee their political passage.
