The Representations of the Suffragist Movement in the Estado de Minas Newspaper (1928 - 1932)
Female suffrage, Vote, Citizenship, Minas Gerais, Newspaper.
This dissertation investigates the participation of women from Minas Gerais in the suffragist movement, focusing on the representations of this movement in the local press, particularly in the newspaper Estado de Minas, between 1928 and 1932. Aiming to fill the existing gap in historiography about female suffrage in Minas Gerais, the study seeks to identify the Minas Gerais activists and analyze how their demands were portrayed by the media at the time. Using the press as a historical source, the research reveals the role of journalism in the construction of memories and social imaginaries, contributing to a broader and more inclusive understanding of Brazilian women's struggle for political rights.
