MARTIN LUTHER, RABELAIS AND MARGARET OF NAVARRE: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE BIOGRAPHIES OF LUCIEN FEBVRE
Biography; French historiography; Comparison; Lucien Febvre
This thesis aims to analyze the biographies Martin Luther, a Destiny (1928), The Problem of Unbelief in the Sixteenth Century: Rabelais' Religion (1942) and Amour sacré, amour profane: autor de <<L’Heptaméron>> (1944), written by historian Lucien Febvre, in order to verify to what extent the author constructs and uses the same resources in these three works. We intend to compare these biographies in order to verify variations and continuities, and this, through the following question: is it possible that they all have characteristics of a modern biography? Why does Febvre clearly express the desire that the text not be read as a biography?
