SUMMARY:

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the interactions between espadeiros, espadeiras and military police officers in the Guerra de Espadas in Cruz das Almas/BA. The time frame, from 1980 to 2024, focuses on the historiographical field of Present Time. Considering its criminalization in 2011, the dynamics between these agents were reformulated, creating openings for strategies of resistance, negotiation and articulation. Therefore, the focus of the analysis is on the intersection of two social institutions: the police and the Guerra de Espadas. The sources used to construct the historical text were, not exclusively, police reports and oral accounts. The documents were analyzed using  concepts and categories such as resistance, negotiation, social control and structure-agency.
