SUMMARY:

Sebastião Rodrigues Maia, known as Tim Maia, is one of the most prominent figures in Brazilian music. Born in 1942 in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, his work addresses diverse themes such as Africa, religiosity, food, and especially love. This study focuses on the latter, aiming to analyze the possibilities of constructing Black masculinities and their relationships with love through his discography. Given the artist’s extensive musical production, the research examines love-themed compositions from albums released between 1970 and 1983. It seeks to understand how structures of racial and gender domination intersect with representations of love and its possible absence in his songs.
