RESUMO:

The chapter that follows, is dedicated to the understanding of the fetishis treligious universe, practiced in the streets of Rio de Janeiro soon after its politicali ndependence. Starting from the demography composed by the transatlantic traffic, in its greater contribution of landed in the ports of the Sou the ast of Brazil. Through out the thesis will be worked small biographies of religious leaders, who in their context, for some mis fortune, end edup falling into the hands of the authorities constituted by the imperial state, which end edupunveiling their choices in the sphere of the sacred. In the chapter that follows in particular, the biography of Laurentino Inocêncio dos Santos, Brazilian, black, was presented, counting fifty-eighty ears old in 1878,and aninfluential religious leader ship with in the urban parishes of Rio de Janeiro in the context, especially the Glory.
