TRANSVESTITES AND TRANSSEXUALS IN NEWSPAPERS OF SÃO PAULO, 1970s AND 1980s. DISCOURSES, SENSES AND GENDER IDENTITIES
gender; transvestites; transsexuals; O Estado de S. Paulo; Folha de S. Paulo.
The present study problematizes the forged and attributed meanings to "transvestites" and "transsexuals" in São Paulo newspapers of the seventies and eighties. Based on a "real" presupposition instituted by the language / discourse, I investigate and analyze the statements about transvestites and transvestites inFolha de S. Paulo and O Estado de S. Paulonewspapers of the mentioneddecades. For the proposed historical enunciative analysis, I refer to Foucauldian tools and "queer theories". The objectives of the study are: to identify and analyze the specificities and historicities of the "transvestite" and "transsexual" identity categories, considering the possible approximations / exchanges / distances / ruptures between them; to elaborate the exercises of powers by the speeches of the press, exposing and analyzing the supposedly "neutral" discourses of the newspapers, which produce "identities", "differences" and "hierarchies".
