Let the sertões opens: a political project of centralization and freedom of trade to the centralization of the captive trade and enslavement in Angola (1764-1772)

This research aims to analyze the Portuguese political project to the centralization of the captive trade and enslavement in Angola during the second half of eighteenth century. For that, based on the legislation produced at that time, we will perform a comparative analysis between the orders from Portugal and what was effectively practiced by the administrative agents in Angola. Lastly, we will focus on the mechanisms resistance of the local authorities – including the Luanda City Council and the African potentates – to the kingdom legislation.
