SUMMARY:

The thesis aims to treat the issue of war as a moment of encounter between groups, and how these groups built a narrative about themselves and about the other from the conflict. The Battle of Tangier, fought by the Portuguese against the inhabitants of the city in North Africa in 1437, was taken as an object of study. Among the other issues, which are being worked on in this thesis, is the conformation of the Portuguese monarchy with the time, since the preparations for the Tangier expedition were not consensual among the conducting elites of the kingdom. Another important point of this research is the relationship between Portugal and the kingdom of Aragon, which promoted incursions against Muslims and linked itself to the Portuguese kingdom through the marriage of the Portuguese monarch with D. Leonor de Aragão. Likewise, it seeks to understand the historical formation of the kingdom, which identified itself as a chosen one of God in the fight against the infidel and how this characteristic helped to guide the relations with the other Iberian kingdoms and with the Muslims
