SUMMARY:

The thesis seeks to analyze the formation process of Boca do Lixo based on the contrast between the autobiographical account of one of its offenders - Hiroito de Moraes Joanides, written in 1977 - and the discursive constructions of the São Paulo police press and State institutions on the daily life of Mouth of Garbage. In this sense, the process of constituting Boca do Lixo as a marginal territory of São Paulo, between the decades of 1950-1970, will be analyzed from the notion of “Moral Topography”, coined by the historian Dominique Kalifa, who thinks of the reserved places crime as a discursive construction made by literature, police press and reports from state agencies. We will also analyze your daily life,subjects and type of criminal activity developed in Boca do Lixo. From this dialogism, we seek to historicize how, when and why this city territory started to be elaborated in the social imagination as a place reserved for moral dirt, a “bas-fond”. And how the relations between the subjects and the state apparatus took place.
