SUMMARY:

According to historian  José Murilo de Carvalho, during the Estado Novo, the Army has positioned itself as a fundamental element of affirmation and defense of the regime and what was seen was the victory of a project articulated by a sector of the Army aimed at promoting changes in the internal structure of the military organization, as well as in its relations with the State and society. In this context, some institutions were created in the Army with the aim of forming a historical culture within the Armed Forces: archive, library/editorial and Institute of geography and military history. 

These instititions would be an important part of a campaign aimed at ending the politics in the Army. In this project, appears the figure of the captain Severino Sombra de Albuquerque that thought these institutions as anti-communist working tools in the training of Army officers. The aim of this project is to investigate the trajectory of Severino Sombra de Albuquerque to identify different organizational arrangements that ran in the Army throughout the 20th century
