SUMMARY:

The present one aims to research the migratory trajectories and experiences of women who at some point reached the exercise of prostitution at the end of the 19th century, their living and working conditions. The intent of who women are, where they came from and what forms of work they are most derived from. Thus, we seek to investigate the internal migratory processes in order to establish the transformations of  in the management of prostitution in the city in the light of the presence of these women, as well as the dimensions of the Rio working class in the period between 1876 and 186.

Prostitution was a possibility of work available to many women, since the society we are dealing with was guided by certain conceptions about sexuality and work. Women's morality was established through the notion of honor and private space. As well as public influence, the performance of police officers, the influence of any of them directly on police surveillance. Thus, these women were being arrested by the House of Detention for various reasons that, many times, were looking at who they were detaining.

Thus, it seeks to understand issues concerning slavery and the Worlds of Work through gender relations. Therefore, we show this information by searching the entrance records of the Casa de Detenção and the press narratives.
