The present work seeks to point out the relationship between the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the government of President João Batista Figueiredo, during the years 1979 and 1985. The PDS was the party responsible for aggregating the government supporters who left the Arena with the 1979 Party Reform. President Figueiredo's government has as a landmark an intense debate on the transition process within the National Congress. The PDS ended up being the party that held the parliamentary majority during the period indicated. The main objective of the survey is to understand how the PDS acted against the government of President Figueiredo in the context of the transition and other debates considered important in the period.
