SUMMARY:

This research, analyzing the first half of the Military Dictatorship aims at describing and contextualizing the ways in which the Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional promoted face to its employees the ideals of national-developmentalist and economic modernization, associated to the idea that a racial democracy existed inside the company, while reproducing spheres of social stratification and inequality in its workplace environment.
This research emphasizes a cultural approach, analyzing discourses and ascribing relevance to ethnic relations, challenging usual understandings about the ways in which working-class formation connects to racial issues.
