SUMMARY:

With independence and the establishment of the constitutional system, which required  the separation of political powers and the presence of a representative government, supported by the vote of citizens, the Chamber of Deputies – an institution that is part of the Legislative power – constituted a new space of representation. politics and an arena where the political game unfolded both between the deputies and between them and the Executive Power, whose head was the Emperor. Thus, being part of the political structure of the imperial State, the Chamber of Deputies was converted into a political arena, where the political opposition to d. Pedro I throughout the First Reign. In this way, through the analysis of the Annals of the Chamber of Deputies, the objective of this research is to understand how the opposition to the government of Emperor d. Pedro I inside the Parliament. Still, considering that the legislative sessions were public, our interest is also to understand how this public participated in that environment, whether they guided or pressured the discussions and parliamentary determinations during the sessions in the Chamber of Deputies.
