SUMMARY:

Zanan (Women) is a magazine in a series of publications focused on women in the nineties and the beginning of the 2000s in Iran. After the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad closed this magazine in 2008, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), in Paris, gathered a series of Zanan's articles and emblematic covers produced in the first decade of 2000s. The CNRS published in 2009 the edition "Zanan: le journal de l'autre Iran”, with the articles' transcriptions from Persian to English. The magazine was closed because it was considered "too feminist", but their articles mix social, religious, political, and artistic issues about women and for women in the country. This research aims to investigate Iranian feminism that was represented in Zanan's articles and then, explore women's activism in Iran pre and post the Revolution of 1979.
