RESUMO:

In this research we intend to show how the celebrations/mobilizations of the May Day appeared in the newspapers of the city of Manaus in the period of 1890-1930 and analyze the nuances of the working class about this important event, highlighting all the peculiarities of the use of newspapers as sources to this research.Most of the newspapers mobilized to cover the "Great Day" in the capital of Amazonas, which consisted on to marches to the cemetery to remind the workers who had passed away, on speeches given in public places, and on choosing the new directorships and festivities in some associations. We also glimpsed a glance at the gender and race relations surrounding the date in the city. The May Day is one of the most important and interesting phenomena in the History of Labor. The struggles and anxieties of the workers were outsourced during the movement which at its birth was thought to be the first great international workers' rite. The date gained fast and great adhesion on the part of the unions and workers' associations
