RESUMO:

O Guesa, epic composed of twelve songs, was written between the 50s and 80s of the nineteenth century by Joaquim de Sousa Andrade, the Sousândrade. Work in progress, in it we witness the trans-American journey of the character Guesa, interspersed by his recollections and remembrances. Epic built around the memory of the experience, with a confessional tone, in this journey of return, of the redemption of America and Brazil, we are fed with historical and geographical references which, mixed with the reflections and reminiscences of the character / poet, assume a function of clairvoyance , of the scintillations of the real. America / Brazil is thus clothed by a fundamental mystery, a consequence of the association of veiled and manifest things, in a state that simultaneously has something of recapitulation and emergency.

O Guesa, mythical figure of the old muíscas of Colombia, was a boy destined to the pilgrimage and the sacrifice in honor to the sun god, Bochica. To do this, it should cross a path planned by the god, the "suna," until the age of fifteen, when, attached to a column, in a circular square, he should be sacrificed by the priests to have blood stored in sacred vessels and the heart offered to the god Bochica.

Mixed in with the poet and his own itinerary of travel and life, the pilgrim Indian incarnates in the poem the figure of the exile, who, introduced in a temporality of inter-place, opens the possibility of the exercise of critical decentration and a resizing of history.

In this thesis, I propose an analysis of the songs of the epic, focusing on their linguistic protocols and the relation they assume in the articulation of the temporal tessituras of the poem. To make such a reading, I approach the psychic images of Achille Mbembe. According to the Cameroonian philosopher, the entanglements of these psychic images that make up the narrative constructions take us into the field of the symbolic, the play of its symbols and its circulation. For Mbembe, this construction involves not only a psychic work, but operates a critique of time and artifacts which claim to be the ultimate substitutes for the very substance of time.

Therefore, rather than analyzing the poem for the contemporaneity that it maintains with its time, my focus will fall on the multiplicity of lines of temporality present in the epic whose ability to define unpublished directions constitutes the main condition of human becoming . The question to be tested here is to see if the poem O Guesa de Sousândrade operates, through its verses, a critique of time.
