RESUMO:

This research intends to contribute with the studies of post-abolition in Brazil, especially regarding the historiography of black women and the Brazilian black press. The main objective is to problematize how they were affected by patriarchy and moralism during the first decades of the twentieth century in São Paulo, and how issues of race, class and gender pervaded everyday life. The feminine writings, their demands and mobilizations for the black cause will be elucidated in order to observe the protagonism of these characters within that press. Among the eleven women writers of the journal, we selected two women to know their life trajectories within that social milieu and their main demands, which related to education, racialization, beauty and gender strife. In addition, the narratives constructed by black men about the social roles assigned to women will also be analyzed. With such analyses, it is intended to take out of the invisibility the intellectuality of the women who contributed to the formation and existence of the black movement at those times, as well as to lead the reader to reflect on the gender clashes present behind the scenes of that press.
