RESUMO:

Between the ends of the Old Kingdom (2686 - 2181 BC) and the First Intermediate Period (2181 - 2040 BC) one can see an expansion of the cult of the god Osiris, which is no longer a deity exclusively linked to monarchy and now, have your cult associated with egyptian nobility. Moreover, it is possible to detect several alterations in the cult of this god. This process is a consensus among historians and most historiography has attributed this fact to an alleged fragility of the Egyptian State, which was entering a process of decentralization. Thus, the cult of Osiris would represent the political-religious independence of the Egyptian nobles, who would no longer depend on the king to attain their immortality, as it was in the Old Kingdom. This dissertation disputes such a hypothesis, and will demonstrate how the Egyptian State was never centralized, at least not in the Old Kingdom, and that negotiating relations were part of it, and it was these that made it stronger. In this sense, it is admitted that in the context in question the Menfite monarchy was in crisis, and it is in this context that we insert the phenomenon that this work deals with. The expansion of the cult of this deity took place against a backdrop of political disputes for state control, not against the state.
