RESUMO:

The main objective of this dissertation is to analyze MDB's role as an opposition  party during the Geisel administration, between 1974 and 1978. This cut was made considering that, during the 1970s, the MDB underwent a partisan restructuring. Also in this context, the heterogeneity of the party was evident with the emergence of the group of the "authentic", which contributed to the reformulation of the group, in its debates and clashes with the main group, the "moderates". Thus, with a renewed and more incisive speech of opposition, the Emedebist acronym achieved in the direct legislative elections in 1974 an unusual electoral growth until then in bipartisanship. Through this electoral growth, the MDB won more than a third of the seats in the National Congress, which is necessary to have access to some requirements of the current legislation, such as being able to form a Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry (CPI) or even bar voting. in the legislative houses some governmental bills. In this scenario, it was important for us to understand how MDB's party action took place, given its electoral growth, its governance platform and its internally diversified composition.
