SUMMARY:

This research analyzes the presence of speeches related to sanctity, notably hagiographies, in the midst of the 16th century Protestant Reformation. Widely known and disseminated in the medieval period, hagiographies, among many characteristics, conveyed an entire catalog of virtues which was always related to the environment that produced it. With the advent of the Reformation, a supposed break in the hagiographic discourse was propagated, which, from that moment, would only and exclusively concern the “Catholic world”. However, this discourse remains in the Protestant milieu and, like medieval hagiographies, it continued to convey virtues that helped to affirm the Reformation itself.
