The present work in the area of Institutional History has as its object the research on the Court of Appeal of Rio de Janeiro in the period between 1833 and 1850, with emphasis on the typology of the processes, procedures and legal practices that were undertaken in those who there. in addition to verifying whether the dictates of positive law were being observed. Aside from that, understanding the administrative organization and functioning of that court, as well as verifying the extent to which legal decisions taken in the first instance were modified on an appeal basis, as well as reflecting the relations between Justice, State and Society in the Empire
