SUMMARY:

The purpose of this work is to analyze the discursive elements of the film series Why We Fight, produced by Frank Capra between 1942 and 1945, shortly after the official entry of the USA into World War II, and its connections with american nationalism. To this end, we will present the director, indicating some of his worldviews and social and political positions, we also will talk about the narrative construction and the filmic elements of the documentaries, and we will focus on its rhetorical elements and its social and discursive functions. Such effort helps us to understand the power of cultural objects (in our case, cinema) as a field of analysis of social and military disputes, as well as their use for the propagation and legitimation of State policies.
