The social impact of the implementation of the Multidisciplinary Institute of UFRRJ in Baixada Fluminense (2005-2017)
The following dissertation analyzes the social impact of the implementation of the campus of Instituto Multidisciplinar, also known as IM, of the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) between the years of 2005 to 2017. Our goal is to discover the profile of the students contemplated by its implementation and to analyze the history behind the institute’s creation, seeking to fill the gaps left by previous studies. This research was based on the analysis of institutional sources from UFRRJ, such as deliberations by the University’s Council, Administration reports for the years 2008 to 2017, Restructuring and Expansion Projects and the Political and Pedagogical Project of IM. We have also relied on the analysis of spoken and audiovisual media. We reached the conclusion that the institute has made possible for the local population to have access to higher education while raising student’s awareness of their regional identity.
