SUMMARY:

The research intends to analyze the Brazilian military intelligentsia throughout the 20th century, developing a case study about the trajectory of the officer Jarbas Passarinho, with emphasis on his action at the beginning of the Brazilian dictatorship. The dissertation deals with the formation of the military intelligentsia throughout the 20th century, questioning some of the most notorious figures in this field, in addition to the most relevant institutions in the formation of these agents. In addition, it deals with the military and intellectual formation of Jarbas Passarinho during the period before the 1964 coup. Finally, the research addresses Passarinho's performance during the dictatorial period, extending until the promulgation of the Institutional Act n. 5.
