SUMMARY:

This research is a study on the Interface between Youth and Adult Education (EJA) and Special Education: Political-Pedagogical Challenges in Mesquita/RJ. This study was carried out based on analysis of documents relating to Youth and Adult Education and Special Education in the municipality of Mesquita and other border areas, as well as a bibliographic survey of Theses, Dissertations and articles relating to the object of research, in the period 2012 to 2022, aiming to understand the process of inclusion of target audience students of Special Education in Youth and Adult Education in the municipality of Mesquita and the public policies that guarantee this process. The research highlighted the need for more public policies in education, related to the area of study, as well as the lack of commitment in the three spheres of government with people with disabilities. To support the research, Critical Theory was used as a theoretical-methodological framework, with emphasis on the thinkers Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer. However, it is worth highlighting that other scholars, such as Damasceno and Freire, are considered in the discussion and analysis of the object of study. The procedures adopted in the research were the analysis of official documents, national and international, which support the discussion of the study and the analysis of Theses, Dissertations and Articles referring to the period 2012-2022 collected in the database on the websites of CAPES, SciELO, BDTD . This research observed the need to develop more active public policies with the target audience of the research, students with disabilities, and the participation of society in this construction process. The results of the study reveal that the municipality where the research was carried out, as well as the others researched, need public policies that cover these target students of Special Education enrolled in EJA, in which there is a lack of commitment from governments to act promptly in these teaching modalities.
