BLACKNESS ON THE SCENE: VIEWS ON THE MOBILIZATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND ENGAGEMENT IN BLACK ARTS OF RIO DE JANEIROblack arts; black movement; education; anti-racism.
This research sought to carry out a study together with the black arts, with the aim of investigating how they can contribute to anti-racist education. To this end, we conducted our investigations through bibliographical and documentary research and following artistic performances in the city of Rio de Janeiro and Johannesburg – South Africa, through the possibility of the exchange. Initially, we covered some trajectories of black theatrical performances, emphasizing the black presence in theaters throughout history in Brazil and the experiences of the Confraria do Impossível, a group active in the city of Rio de Janeiro specifically to highlight racial dialogues. Despite my trajectory as an actress and director, and the strength of black theater, in the past-present, we also observe the need to search for a consistent panorama (even if it is not possible to discuss interactions and analyses), of the broad and diverse richness of the arts black women engaged in the fight against racism – as an obligatory tool of the Black Movement. With this in mind, we moved to meet other artistic manifestations, such as Slam, in order to contribute to our reflections and writings.
