SUMMARY:

The preservation of cultural and collective memory in Brazil is a very complex topic, as it demands a series of factors, interests, agents (public and private) among others. Its remembrance and conservation, contained in the narratives, are relevant, mainly, with regard to the construction of the identity of peoples and groups. In this sense, this doctoral research proposes to establish reflections on the relevant history of rural schools located in the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, highlighting that this history is intensely marked by the resistance of its subjects. For the viability of this thesis project, mnemonic research aimed at understanding the historical-social processes present in the daily practices of the subjects who make up the school community, defined as peasants who are the object of study of this work, was considered essential. In this way, studies on history and memory are fundamental, as they represent the way in which (or the ways in which) humanity develops information conservation mechanisms, that is, the way in which we store, individually or collectively, selected knowledge. which represents a period determined both concretely, through documentary analysis, for example, and subjectively, based on mnemonic or cognitive investigations, both personal and by groups. Therefore, collective memory is constituted by the set of individual memories, that is, according to Halbwachs (1990) individual memories, when grouped, can contribute to evoking the historical construction of a given population or society. They become more visible, exceeding collective limits to the point of promoting historical construction. Through these approaches, observing that the cultural issue is essential for the development of research, in the case of Rural Education, this condition is even more evident given that its subjects are made up of a profusion of diverse characters (farmers, riverside dwellers, indigenous people, quilombolas, landless people, among others). Due to this set of cultures, rural schools require a more contextualized analysis, intrinsically linked to resistance, represented by social movements, especially those fighting for land, such as the MST, in order to overcome the inadequacy based on principles of character, entirely, urban Caldart (2012). Finally, with regard to the history of education, according to the specificities presented, rural subjects manifest an infinity of knowledge that expresses, in an identity way, the peasant characteristics of the historical-social construction of the Brazilian population itself, which highlights the clashes existing within the complex scenario of the struggle represented by class conflicts, existing both in Brazil and in Latin America.
