RESUMO:

Studies of childhood in recent years reveal that children gain visibility,

from a time of preparation, of becoming, to be looked at as a time in itself, in which each phase of age, with its own identity and its own ends, has to be lived in the totality of itself. Thus, considered social actors, subjects and producers of culture, with their own characteristics and specificities, competent and capable, they start to demand institutions, in charge of their education, oriented from another paradigm. The mentioned aspects indicate that it is not possible to think about the child, without considering the specificity and the role of the child´s education institutions as space of education, of care, of play, of socialization, of production and of manifestation of the culture. As Line 1 Research - Contemporary Studies and Educational Practices of PPGEDUC presents, their approaches are relate to several aspects that this thesis intends to explore, of the multiple educational spaces and their peculiarities, of the curricular question related to the education of the childhood, and conceptions about childhood (s) and child (ren). We have come out of a logic of social reproduction, whose role of children is the target of educational policies and pedagogical practices oriented by adults, to a perspective that considers the social category of childhood as valid to be analyzed in itself, which interprets children as social actors rights and the multiple symbolic interactions that children establish with each other and with adults as worthy of study and analysis. The concern to listen to children in education research is recent, and in fact, to promote a change in this practice, the concepts require a paradigm shift above all by those working in situations of pedagogical action, obviously teachers, but also all those who are involved in this community. This means that we need to think about research and practice in which children are understood as subjects and not only as research objects and receivers of pre-established knowledges. The issues that arise in this context are: What conceptions about children and childhood are presented through school documents and how do they enable the consolidation of the notion and practice of the citizen child? Therefore, the objectives of this study are: To identify conceptions about childhood and child that the schools of Resende and Braga present in their documentation; Analyze these conceptions, deepening the understanding about them through research conducted with children of these schools; To point out the narratives of practices, analyzes, solutions, decisions and what challenges these bring to our current context; To relate the curricular question to these conceptions in a dialogical and alterity perspective. In a broader historical context, we perceive that the children's voices, stories and bodies have been denied and silenced. For this the research will be structured in four chapters. The first entitled "Child? What a child? Childhood? What childhood? ", Seeks to clarify definitions about concepts about children and childhood (s), dialoguing with theorists of the area called" Studies of Childhood ", which comprises diverse productions of theorists of History, Philosophy of Language, Geography, Psychology and Sociology of Childhood. Aware that the concepts about child (ren) and childhood (s) are plural, it is intended at this stage to define also which children we refer to, seeking their protagonism in the elucidation of what they reveal about their lives. The second chapter, entitled "Mine, yours, our right ...", deals with public policy issues for Early Childhood Education. In addition to the analysis of the Laws and other documents presented by the government in Resende and Braga, we will have the opportunity to appreciate the data presented in the processes of authorization / renewal of the operation of the Early Childhood schools. This information will enable a comparative analysis between the institutions' official discourse and the practice carried out. The third chapter, called "Researching with children" aims to clarify the methodological aspects of the work, so we will use the photographic resources produced by them as researchers and we will deal with children's protagonism. The fourth chapter, entitled "With the speech, the adults", presents the position of the managers of the two cities, Resende/Brazil and Braga/Portugal, on the reflection that this work intends to raise: the citizen child: and the conceptions about childhood and practices of protagonism in schools and cities. Finally, with the title "Ending, for now, without completing", the final / partial considerations are made, on the subject and its possible referrals.
