“Beyond access, I need to stay at university!”: Trajectory and strategies of black quota holders at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora / MG

This qualification text aims to present the partial results of the research, as well as the Doctoral work plan, to investigate the different challenges that may be faced by black quota students in relation to their stay in a public university. The text has as its locus the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), campus Juiz de Fora, and provides as subjects the students of the courses of Medicine, Electrical Engineering, Law, Dentistry and Psychology, selfdeclared blacks, who entered the institution considering the time frame 2012-2018. Regarding methodological procedures, the research intends to conduct an online questionnaire and interviews to verify the role of institutional support and how these factors may affect the decision to stay in university. The research methodology will consist of a biographical survey of the State of Art type and later, by applying a questionnaire and interviews with students and other members of the institution's academic community. The analysis considers the racial inequalities experienced by black students at all levels of education, the active mechanisms of institutional racism that perpetuate them, and presents an overview of affirmative actions. The data will be analyzed considering the permanence of students in higher education, considering material and symbolic factors since they permeate the field of valorization and racial belonging.
