Victims of Domestic Violence in EJA: perspectives of female students about their schooling process
Youth and Adult Education, Domestic Violence, Schooling
The present work entitled “Victims of Domestic Violence in EJA: perspectives of female students about their schooling process” is a quantitative and qualitative research, still in progress, which seeks to investigate the extent to which domestic violence affects the trajectories of women / research subjects, as well as what they seek when resuming their schooling process. Domestic violence is a social and collective evil that is still treated by society as a private problem. Studies that articulate gender and education of young people and adults, such as Nogueira (2003), point out that the decision to resume studies by women can generate situations of tension and conflict in the domestic environment, even causing situations of violence perpetrated by their spouses. Even in this context, we verified the presence of the victims of this violence in the EJA in an attempt to continue their schooling. In this context, the investigation is guided by the following central objective: to understand the perspectives, meanings attributed and challenges encountered by women victims of domestic violence enrolled in Youth and Adult Education regarding their schooling. As specific objectives of this research we can point out: 1- Build a statistical panorama about the exposure of students enrolled in the research field school to situations of domestic violence, including the categories provided for by Law 11.340 / 2006, the frequency of this exposure and temporality, comparing national and regional data; 2- Identify students who experience domestic violence in their daily lives and the speeches they bring about this experience; 3- Know the first school experiences of these women, factors of interruption and discontinuity of studies, as well as motivations for resuming studies; 4- Identify relationships between domestic violence and the schooling process of victimized women; 5- Understand the meanings attributed by them to the school space, to formal education, as well as future expectations regarding their schooling. For that, we will use theoretical references that dialogue with the concepts of Gender, Feminism, Gender Violence, Symbolic Violence, Domestic Violence, Intersectionality, Schooling of Women and Education of Youth and Adults in the contemporary world. The work will have as a research locus one of the public schools in Angra dos Reis that offer the EJA modality, located in a peripheral region. The research stages will consist of Conversation Wheels, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews.
