Transcultural Adaptation, Validation, and Reliability of Body Image Rating Scales for Young College Students

Body image is the mental representation of the body itself. It is an area in constant evolution of knowledge, representing great importance in recent decades. Therefore, many researches have been developed in order to provide advances in this construct, as well as ways to develop research in this area. For this reason, the cross-cultural validation and / or adaptation of instruments for their evaluation in the most diverse contexts of society has been of great importance. Objective: The objective of this research is to carry out the cross-cultural adaptation, validation and reliability of body image assessment scales for young university students in Brazil. Methodology: The target population will be approximately 1500 young adults, university students, of both sexes, aged 18 to 30 years. Participants will come from universities in Brazil, serving all regions of the country. The collection instruments will be the Physical Activity Body Experiences Questionaire (PABEQ); Physical Appearance Comparison Scale – 3 (PACS-3); The Body Appreciation Scale (BAS); The Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Scale – 4 (SATAQ – 4); The Rosenberg Self-Steem Scale (RSES) and sociodemographic questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis and multivariate statistics will be used for data analysis. Expected results: Provide teachers and higher education professionals with valid and accurate measures to assess the body image of young university students, so that they can enjoy assertive and effective interventions for the integrated and positive development of their body image
