SUMMARY:

The present text brings the research investigations woven from the reflections carried out throughout the Master's studies. By placing Manoel de Barros in dialogue with Paulo Freire, our main objective is to deepen the reading of the educator's work, especially regarding the existing tensions in many issues of our time and that confront facts of contemporary capitalism. In this sense, Barrosean poetry allows us to “see beyond” Freirean thought because it surpasses words understanding and reading  to achieve a new world reading. The chapter “The Praise of the Useless: Against Neoliberal Fatalism” approaches some Freirean concepts, such as the refusal of neoliberal discourse and ideology, the ontological vocation of humanization, the search for Being More, the consciousness of incompleteness, and the criticism of banking education and finds in Barrosean's poetry, based on an aesthetic protagonism of rupture that resignifies uselessness, beauties, and unimportances, a reading that makes us think about some contemporary problems. Likewise, biographical aspects of Paulo Freire, such as some points of his childhood and specific clippings of his thought, such as the idea of the possible dream, of utopia, of the viable unheard, of limit-situations and of hope, build the second chapter, “To hope is to carry water in the sieve”, in which Freirean thought acquires new meanings in Manoel de Barros' “poetic reverie”. Finally, we bring a brief panorama of what we still intend to approach during the research in progress. The chapter “Neither kings nor regencies: the aesthetic moment of language”, in turn, brings aesthetic and political aspects of Freirean and Barrosean languages, tracing points of convergence and similarities between both authors regarding this issue. Finally, the last chapter, “It is necessary to cross the world: Guevara's dream”, starts from a visceral concept of freirean education – that of transformation – to think about the role of writing, and of Barroso's poetry, specifically, in around some pressing contemporary issues. Finally, we close the research bringing the final considerations about what has been done and what can still be done within the chosen theme and the problems that involve it.
