SUMMARY:

The history of education and Adult and Youth Education (EJA, in Portuguese) in Brazil is built upon multiple efforts towards renewal, updates, and the creation of educational policies and practices aimed at the diverse individuals within educational institutions. One of the prominent figures in this history, who continues to advocate for different perspectives, is Professor Osmar Fávero. Throughout his career, he has tirelessly fought for a more popular, social, and democratic education. This work is a tribute to Osmar Fávero, highlighting his presence and pivotal role in many significant moments of the history of education and EJA in Brazil, from basic education to post-graduate studies. Given the richness of this history, this dissertation focuses on the theses and dissertations supervised by Professor Osmar Fávero in order to identify the topics explored in his students' works and analyze the studies on EJA. Using Professor Fávero's Lattes curriculum as a starting point, the research identified the students who defended master's and doctoral degrees between 1974 and 2018, the latest record found at the time of this research. The chosen methodology for the study was bibliographic in nature, enabling the collection of supervised works through online platforms, as well as written and audiovisual materials that addressed Professor Osmar's life. The examination of all this material revealed that during this period, 56 master's dissertations and 17 doctoral theses were supervised by Professor Fávero, totaling 73 supervised works. It was also noted that, despite being the subject of numerous research studies, there are still few written works on Osmar Fávero himself, and most of them lack the foundational questions necessary to fully comprehend the man and his body of work (Osmar, his trajectory, and  orientations); another relevant fact that this research was able to focus on is that Fávero guided works that were related to his practice, not only academic, but that was brought from other professional experiences and that at 90 years of age he still has the stamina to continue fighting for education, even if he is retired.
