ABSTRACT

 

 

This thesis, as an academic proposal, presents other educational movements that occur outside the walls of traditional schools. Our focus is to discuss the educational practices that take place in the children's samba school. The research problem is centered on: How does the Mangueira do Amanhã Samba School contribute to the construction of knowledge about African history? The second question, which derives from the first, asks: In what ways do children experience this learning? To address this problem, we have outlined the following research questions: What is the role of samba school music and dance in educating about African heritage? How can children's samba schools serve as spaces for learning and reflection on African heritage? In what ways does community participation in samba schools strengthen the historical memory of the African continent? Within this perspective, I aim to direct attention to the educational practices in the children's samba school through the narratives of the children. To facilitate the research, we conducted a search in the Capes Database and the BDTD, as well as in academic journals, to understand how this educational process occurs. For this, it was necessary to draw on Afro-perspectives and Afro-civilizational values. Methodologically, the research is qualitative and employs ethnography. The results obtained are available in the final considerations.
