SUMMARY:

This doctoral dissertation project will reflect on the importance of understanding the "baby subject" as a developing citizen, valuing their interactions with the world through reading and encouraging reading. The need to understand how the BNCC has been appropriated and reinterpreted in the daily lives of early childhood education institutions is justified, especially with regard to promoting meaningful reading experiences from the earliest years of life. The research problem focuses on the following question: how do reading practices developed with babies in daycare centers in a municipality in the interior of Goiás face the limitations of the BNCC and contribute to the development of readers as citizens? The main objective will be to analyze how teachers understand and implement reading practices in early childhood education aimed at babies (zero to 1 year and 6 months), considering the learning and development objectives of the Listening, Speaking, Thinking, and Imagination experience field established in the BNCC. The theoretical framework is based on Historical-Cultural Theory (HT), particularly the contributions of Vygotsky and Prestes, which considers mediation, language as a social practice, and the Zone of Immediate Development (ZID) as foundations for teaching infants. The authors highlighted in the Systematic Literature Review criticize the effects of curriculum standardization and advocate for valuing infants' uniqueness. The research site will be a public daycare center in a municipality in southeastern Goiás. The research will be qualitative and interpretive in nature. Data collection in this ethnographic study will involve participant observation at the daycare center and semi-structured interviews with teachers.
