SUMMARY:

Due to the lack of a specific educational policy for preparing teachers for higher education, teachers, regardless of the institution—whether public or private—may be hired to work in higher education without proper pedagogical training, as technical and specialized knowledge is prioritized in the training of future professionals in various fields. The general objective of this work is to analyze teacher professionalization for public higher education in Brazil based on the life stories of new teachers at UFRRJ. This qualitative research (Sampieri; Collado; Lúcio, 2013; Gil, 2017) will be conducted through bibliographical, documentary, and field research, with data collection through documents, questionnaires, and interviews, and analysis of narratives from different participants in a case study (Lüdke; André, 2013; Yin, 2015) at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). Based on the data collected, we hope to profile incoming professors at UFRRJ through their life stories and thus contribute to the development of teacher training policies at the institutional level for all faculty members.
