CAPOEIRA AND PEDAGOGICAL PRINCIPLES IN CONTEMPORANEITY
Educational Principles in Capoeira - Masters of Capoeira - Woman in Capoeira
Masters of Capoeira have built over the years a space of prestige, based on a hierarchical logic that includes besides the ability, the time of practice and accompaniment of a Master throughout their lives. Using these memories goes against the perspectives of the New Cultural History in that it advocates the speech of subjects who have had their citizenship put in doubt, a consequence of the social imaginary charged with prejudices and stigmas about their cultural practices.
I understand that theories of postcolonial education and what we understand as the "office of the Masters" need to engage in more dialogue. As a capoeirista and pedagogue, I feel free to interfere with the following question: in my perception there has been an excessive institutionalization of Capoeira practices, and this leads its practitioners to be recognized by the color of the rope (hierarchy), number of certifications, quantity of places where they practice their profession with Capoeira. However, they do not consider (or consider little) the true actions that promote the educational value of Capoeira, for example: corporal practices that render health and improvement of physical qualities, and resignification and overcoming of life histories through art and culture.
With this, I am committed to bringing the narratives of the Masters of the state of Rio de Janeiro, under the justification of feasibility, as a material for analysis on the aspirations they have as educators of Capoeira.
